  1. Buy a new MTN SIM card from the nearest MTN store or any other store.
  2. RICA registered your new MTN SIM card.
  3. Visit the nearest MTN store to activate your new MTN SIM card. This is to confirm your identity.
  4. Now you can use the MTN SIM Swap USSD code “135*3#”. You would be told to enter your preferred number you want to swap into the new SIM.
  5. The detail of what you need to do to swap your preferred MTN number into the new SIM card will be sent to you as an SMS.
  6. Follow the process sent to you.

Take the following steps if you want to do a SIM swap:

  • If you have your old MTN SIM card and would like to keep the number probably because you have a new device and you need a new size of SIM card. Follow these steps:

Step 1: From your old MTN SIM card, send an SMS “SIM Swap” to 44770.

Step 2: Save a One-Time-PIN (OTP) that you received, it is valid for only 15 minutes.

Step 3: From your new SIM card send an SMS (Swap preferred phone number*PIN(OTP)#) to 44770.

Step 4: Your old SIM card will stop working then insert your new SIM card into your device and switch it on.

Step 5: Start using your new SIM card to make and receive calls.

If you have issues, you can call the MTN customers to care on “135”. You will be attended to.

  • For customers whose MTN SIM card had been lost, damaged, or stolen, you can follow the following steps to swap your MTN SIM.

Step 1: Insert your new MTN SIM card into your device.

Step 2: Your number will pop up, click OK.

Step 3: To start the process of MTN SIM swap, dial *135#, then select option 5.

Step 4: You will be asked to enter your old phone number (preferred phone number) and write the reason you are doing the MTN SIM.

Step 5: To continue the MTN SIM swap, you will be required to answer some security questions.

If you have issues, you can call the MTN customers to care on “135”. You will be attended to.
