New Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana has indicated that government wants to replace the current Social Relief of Distress (SRD) R350 grant with a new form of grant.

According to the Minister who have been speaking on this subject over the months, has indicated plans to replace this R350 grant with “family” or “household” grants.

But this has not met the pleasure of the masses most especially the Civil Society Organizations such as Black Sash.

They feel that per the current conversation ongoing with regard to the proposed new grants being championed by the current finance minister.

According to the new grant proposals, sources say, the head of the household will only be given the grant for the whole household which many people have kicked against it.

According to unconfirmed reports, even the president Cyril Ramaphosa is not happy with this new dimension of the SRD grant program.

It is expected that the minister will announce the budget for 2022 this Thursday which the new proposed plan will be detailed and what exactly it seeks to achieve.
